About

I am a psychologist, licensed in California since 1977. I keep up with the research on what works best for your particular therapy goals. I offer secure, encrypted, HIPAA compliant video sessions in the convenience of your home., office, or wherever. Check out my website, www.drjohnfry.com for free resources and my approaches to different issues, based on the latest research as to what works. Many are feeling more stressed out than ever. I welcome your call with your questions. I am here to serve you.

Ph.D in Psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary's School of Psychology. Many referrals are from former clients and local churches. I work with men, women, teens, children, and marriages. I work hard at keeping up with the latest research on what works best for particular problems, and with my Christian clients I blend in a Biblical perspective as well for added effectiveness. I believe in setting goals and coaching in a warm, supportive, and professional style to solve problems and to feel better.

In marriage counseling I see the marriage itself as the client, working to support and improve it, using the findings of Gottman's research following over 3000 couples for over 30 years to help couples move forward in a practical, positive, and constructive manner. I have given over 400 seminars on stress management to, among others, IBM, NBC, The U.S. Navy, and the faculties of Fuller Theological Seminary.

Some of my other specialties include depression, anxiety and panic attacks, anger management, assertiveness training, divorce, and procrastination. I often use the approach of cognitive behavioral therapy, which research shows has good success at helping folks move forward faster and stay better after counseling. Until recently, I have been the speaker at a large Divorce Recovery Workshop that has had over 16,000 attend it since 1981, held at a large Biblically focused church in Newport Beach where I fellowship and have served as an elder.

I would welcome your call to my cell phone (714) 350-9498 and would be glad to answer your questions about getting the counseling you seek. Thank you for your consideration.

My Christian Faith and My Professional Practice

I came to faith while in High School and even then was fascinated by the intersection of a Biblical perspective and the psychology research on what works the best to help people move forward. After my undergraduate work at Northwestern, I attended Fuller Seminary and enrolled in their Ph.D. in Psychology program, which was a 6-year program rather than the usual 4 because they had us also take all the required courses the seminarians took in Biblical studies using Greek and Hebrew as well as the theology track. I experience my work as a calling to help folks move forward to free themselves of the difficulties and distortions that stop them from being all that God wants them to be. I pray regularly for my clients and my work with them.
