About
Peace. Happiness. Love. Success.
We all seek them. We want them. As we see them within reach, we are knocked down by Trails of many kinds. We find, instead, lives that are filled with anxiety, sadness, grief, trauma, loss and failure. We feel like God is somehow punishing us or that we do not deserve the happiness we seek. I know this too well. I have experienced this in my own life and in the life of my clients. It does not matter where you are in your life. I have had celebrity clients at the top of their field. I have worked with gold medal athletes. I have worked with businessmen and women, housewives, families, adolescents. I have also worked with those who have lost everything to the ravishes of substance use and with men serving life in prison. They all seem to be missing something.
There is good news! My friend, Tullian Tchividjian often speaks of the “scandalous grace of God” saying “God only uses broken and bad people, because that’s all there are.” Are feeling like you have failed God? Again, listen to the good news. “This is the real scandal: That Jesus embraced the justly accused!” It does not matter what you’ve done. There is hope! Today’s trial is simply Jesus’ invitation to experience His embrace.
Larry Crabb wrote, “If we look for ways to get rid of necessary pain, we'll be disillusioned or misled. For people who define real change as the elimination of inevitable struggle, the final chapters will be terribly disappointing.” Life is a struggle. There is “necessary pain.” Life can be dangerous. The problem with finding a Christian counselor is that some are too Heavenly good to be of any earthly value and some are just the opposite, but it is possible to navigate the dangerous waters of life. You will need a guide. I am that guide. I have walked, stumbled, run from, fallen and gotten up with Jesus for over 40 years. I can offer a powerful balance of proven clinical techniques and Biblical principles. I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Florida. I have excellent education from Palm Beach Atlantic University, one of the Nation’s finest Christian Universities. I have a wealth of experience which includes over three decades of experience as a husband, father, grandfather, youth pastor, counselor and university professor. I have worked in the church, private practice (in Florida and the Bahamas), community mental health (specializing in crisis and families with at-risk-adolescents), foster care, substance abuse, juvenile justice and the prisons. I have maintained my relevance by teaching at the university level, advising a best-selling author on the psychological aspects of his book, serving as a consultant to other mental health agencies and regular attendance at a large non-denominational church. I have wonderful experience working with anxiety, depression, anger, parenting issues, challenging children and teenagers, grief, trauma, substance use issues, family and relationship issues, and other issues and concerns. I have helped my clients find peace with God, with themselves, with others and in their situations. I have helped my clients find happiness, even amid loss and pain. I have helped my clients find belonging and love in healthy and supportive relationships. I have helped my clients increase their ability to succeed by changing their thinking.
