About

Truth and Grace Counseling, LLC, was established to provide an opportunity for individuals, couples, and families to receive therapy in a nonjudgmental environment from Karen M. Bridwell, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), who is dedicated to helping people more fully enjoy their life and purpose. Karen was given the name of her practice from God, and she believes that truth was chosen because there is a healing power that can be realized when the truth concerning a challenge is revealed and accepted, and that grace was chosen because conveying the truth in a compassionate manner is a Biblical mandate; “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is Christ.” Ephesians 4:15 (NIV).

Karen has spent most of her life living in the Chicago area. She started out her professional career in insurance, working in the field for over 25 years. “It took time for me to recognize and listen to God’s calling for my life; to support and empower His people when they are facing challenges in their lives.” After acknowledging and answering His call, she returned to school and acquired her Master’s degree in Clinical Professional Psychology through Roosevelt University. She served her internship at a crisis center working with diverse cultures and populations, and then obtained her license as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). She is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), the American Counseling Association (ACA), and the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association (IMHCA).

Karen’s specialties include anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, agoraphobia, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Another area she specializes in are mood disorders, and this category consists of disorders such as depression and bipolar. She also has extensive experience supporting people who suffer from the trauma associated with domestic abuse including physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse. In addition, she is well equipped to help people experiencing the effects of issues such as anger, grief, impulse control challenges, relational issues, self-esteem, and self-injury. Other areas of experience she possesses include couples counseling, counseling adolescents and their families, and she has also assisted individuals facing life altering health issues and their families.

“My prior business and life experiences, along with my education and training, are assets that I bring to counseling. I enjoy listening to and helping those in need, and my own faith increases as I witness personally how God is present and working in the lives of His people. God created individuals as physical beings with spiritual, emotional, and psychological needs; I know I have been called by God to assist people facing challenges in their lives, and I will do so with a nonjudgmental attitude, honesty, and a servant’s heart.”

Please feel free to contact Karen at (224) 578-5548 with any questions you may have, as she would be pleased to address your concerns. Her office is handicap accessible and has direct access from the outside. Office hours are flexible; providing daytime, evening, and weekend appointments.
